Declaration of Independence

1. Translate the two sentences we read in class (the most important and second most important sentences in American history). They must be in your own words (and NOT what it says in the margin). What do these sentences mean to YOU? How do you feel about them? Why?

2. Make an argument that either supports or refutes this statement: The purpose of government is to protect basic rights. You should have your introductory paragraph plus one or two supporting paragraphs.

Take the quotation you agree with the most, and make an argument for why it is correct. Begin to write an essay proving your point. However, you may NOT use personal pronouns. Please type this up and have a minimum of 3 paragraphs. You will be graded on thesis statement, and support points.

  • Complete 1-11 in your spirals.
  • For #10, also answer this question: c) The free enterprise system certainly benefitted many individuals during the colonial period, but not everyone. Who/what groups did it hurt and why? Provide examples.
  • For #11-- you might have to look up "milestone" to understand the question. Try your hand at it.

Outlining, part 2

1. If you HAVE NOT finished your outline for Chapters 3-5, please try again this evening. This time use the new information. Please follow the same time rule (no more than 30 minutes per chapter).


2.If you HAVE finished
outlining the chapters then outline Chapter 6 tonight. Follow the same time consideration (30 min/chapter), but see if you can get the outlining concept correctly.

TEST TUESDAY

  • Please study for your Ideology exam. It is scheduled for Tuesday Nov. 7th.
  • You must know the meanings of all the words on the list.
  • Be able to identify cow analogies and make cow analogies.
  • Be able to write persuasively about ideologies (and other words).
  • Be able to discuss the differences between similar ideologies.
  • We will review in class Monday.

Expect the exam to take the whole period. It is worth 100 points.
